So, we had our first review of MAPPED...
For you who travel on the northern line, you wore red and we brushed knees at Baker street. Is this the start of something? For the Scatter Collective this Fringe gem is the start of an exciting trip to the Camden Fringe.
Cupid meets Carrie in the ’I saw you across the tube...’column we all guiltily read, creating this collection of post-it note snapshots of those dating nightmares captured honestly and recognisably(!) The trauma of meeting ‘the one’ in London; the morning after, that awkward bumping into your ex, not to mention the dating catastrophes on the tube are presented by an excitingly talented cast.
Mapped explains the ‘What if’s and How to’s’ of mapping those spontaneous exchanges we have with strangers, through a combination of movement, witty dialogue, and clever direction. Seeing that moment where your skinny jeans (which seemed such a good idea the night before,) become a struggle to put on is just one example of the comic genius this company achieve.
The performance space of the Etcetera Theatre captures the intimacy of those fleeting moments perfectly, forcing the audience to question, whether brushing past a stranger at your visit to the Scatter Collective might be the start of true romance. Will that tall dark stranger sit next to you?
This Post-It-Note exploration of the spontaneous meetings we encounter everyday is a refreshing and exciting piece of Fringe Theatre.
Cupid meets Carrie in the ‘I saw you across the tube’ column is performed through movement, witty dialogue and with comic genius.
This piece is unsettlingly recognisable for most, and well worth a visit to the Etcetera.
Awesome! We're all so happy about it, and also that the show in general was a great sucsess... lots of tickets solds, lots of interest and words of support and various people wanting to get involved with workshops and devising!
Those people who are interested in getting involved should send us an email. We're planning to run an open workshop soon, which anyone can come along to and we can see where we might go from there..
We'll keep you posted.
Thanks so everyone who came to MAPPED, we hope you enjoyed it!
The thing I find with The Scatter Collective is that we really all throw ourselves into things. So for instance today we are doing a photo shoot for the website and press stuff for Camden. I can almost certainly guarantee that every single one of us will finish the day thinking ‘I could have been a model’. Also at the Theatre in the Pound night last week, I was so impressed in the way everyone all just went for it so completely, not only in the performances, but also the way we stayed right till the end and were the most vocal people in the audience.
So here in my Scatter Blog I am going to talk about Scatter happenings, rehearsal news, feedback we’ve received, new developments in our company. I also want to talk about things, theatre and more, that I have seen or done or seen people doing, that has got me excited and interested.
For instance
This weekend Shoe and I went to Tunnel 228 underneath Waterloo station and we loved it. The sensation of walking through a paper forest with the artificial birdsong whilst being so dark and deep underground will stay with me for a long time.
I have just received a copy of a script written by my good friend Ben which I have just read through got very excited about. I really want him to come down and do some writing with us. He is also interested in maps and mapping, the script has loads of ideas I want to talk to him about. My favourite line of You were a giant once is ‘I find it hard to locate myself in maps.’ There is definitely something of our show or what will be our show in that line.
We are just starting out on our research period now. So I need to buy a big book and fill it with images or maybe we can cover a wall with all our inspirations. Each member of Scatter is running a workshop a week on themes they are interested in. So it is going to be so exciting getting all these ideas out and about and trying them out in the studio.
Right that is probably enough for today. But now I’ve started I am definitely planning on, in the true style of Scatter, throwing myself and more into this blog.
